Chapter 39

Searing hot energy fused with my body, reconnecting all of my tissues, regrowing my limbs and putting everything back where it belonged. My face twisted and contorted as my eyes returned to their original place.

Dark Favor Has Been Gained! appeared in my vision as my newly reinforced body burst forth out of the earth. I was so much faster than before! My entire body was alight with devilish energy, for Hixim’s power was now surging through me. I was unstoppable.

“He shows his face!” Urkatan roared as he turned to face me. He was mounted atop his giant boar, lance in hand once more. My vision! It was perfect, I could see for miles around and that meant I had the tactical advantage I so desperately needed.

I rushed the galloping mount as the orc lowered the lance and readied to skewer me. My feet were like lightning and I ran faster than I thought possible. So quick was I that Urkatan didn’t have a chance to register I was near him. With a slash of my claws, the lance was severed in two, the magical energies violently exploding, sending the boar crashing to the side – the force of the explosion too great for it to withstand.

Urkatan was thrown from beast and I took the opportunity to leap up to seize him in midair. My legs were naturally enhanced, far better than what the graft ability could provide, and getting to the orc was no trouble.

My claws punched straight into the back of his armor, causing the magical energies around him to completely fizzle out. In an instant, his powers were gone.

We wrestled in midair for a moment, but not too long, for I was easily able to slash through his armor, my claws ablaze with demonic fire. By the time we landed on the ground, Urkatan’s chest had been sliced wide open and he was in the throes of death.

I stood to my feet and watched as the orc twitched and thrashed, trying to close the huge, gaping wound I had caused. Reaching a hand out, I activated the Wither spell, draining the rest of his life force away. The enhanced magics of Hixim made ripping his life essence out as easy as tearing paper from a book.

Target Slain! Shards Diverted! appeared in my vision as I watched the husk of the final target shrivel up into a near unrecognizable piece of leather.

“Well done,” the demon said. “Such power! Delicious, truly so!”

I felt the energies that were putting me into overdrive slowly fade, returning me to my normal senses. The world around me faded back to its obscured, shadow-self that I could barely sift through.

“Demon, wait!” I said, holding a hand up. In the background, I could see the boar slowly realize its master was dead. The hog snorted at this, kicked the dirt in the direction of the corpse and strut off as if it were offended.

“What is it?” Hixim said, his figure still invisible.

“My eyes are weak and useless.
